At A & S Fabricating, we have specialized in custom steel fabrication since 1969. Our 110,000 square foot facility allows us to take on a variety of challenging projects, including manufacturing the steel extruder base shown here. When a customer in the plastics machinery building industry needed this custom-made base, we were contracted to take on the job. Using A36 steel plate that ranged in thickness from ½” to 3”, we used all of our fabrications and machining capabilities. This included saw cutting, CNC burning/plasma cutting, bending, welding, and large scale machining. When completed, the extruder base measured 33’9” in length, 3’5” in width, 2’4” in height, and weighed 7600 lbs. Finishing was performed with sandblasting and polyurethane enamel paint, with the completed project meeting surfaces machined flat and parallel within ± 0.005”. Thorough dimensional and visual inspections were performed to ensure that the extruder base met our client’s exact specifications and paint mil requirements. We employed all our most advanced fabrication, painting, and large machining capabilities for this project, and delivered the final base to our client in the central USA within the timeframe they specified.
